Kids Drum Lessons

Drum teacher who teaches children

surrey drum teacher, surrey drum lessons, Guildford drum lessons, Hampshire drum lessons, tongham drum lessonsIf you are looking for kids drum lessons then Matt at Surrey Drum Teacher can help.

He has taught drums for over twenty years and a majority of students have been children. Although he has taught his own kids from around aged three upwards, the youngest he accepts children for drum lessons usually is aged 5.

From that age they can start to understand the concepts, coordinate their limbs to learn the rhythms, and reach the pedals to use the drum kit properly.

He teaches from a high spec studio in Beacon Hill, Surrey, near Hindhead,  which was custom built in September 2018. The drum studio offers a great learning environment with acoustic and electronic drum kit options. This means there is a smaller kit that younger children can play comfortably.

There is also other various equipment such as keyboards and world percussion so it’s a great creative space to learn in. Matt’s passion lies with sharing his drumming experience with people who are keen to learn. He enjoys the challenge of teaching people with varied ability and ages because each student has different strengths, different weaknesses, different challenges and different ways of learning.

But they all share the same goal of moving on down the road on their journey to becoming the best drummer they can be.

He also likes the lessons to have freedom to be student led. Although he has a large tried and tested drum syllabus, it’s also great when a student brings something to the lesson whether that’s a desire to learn a Green Day song, a Samba rhythm, some jazz, a new technique, or anything else. Because using a topic that the student is passion about makes the learning so much more fun and that can be used as a vehicle to develop technique, theory, reading and all the other important aspects that are required to make a great drummer.

Boring but Important
Matt’s qualifications include a 1st class BA (Hons) in music
He is DBS certified and has public liability insurance for his studio so all the legal stuff is covered.
